Saffronstar jetted across the stones with ease, not getting a fleck of water on his pelt. He hated water with an undying ppassion. His green eyes scanned around through narrowed slits.
The seasons lately had not been kind to him, or to Squallclan. It seemed the storms were growing stronger, and they prey was fleeing from their territory. He growled quietly in frustration to himself then posed a moment outside the entrance to the Storm Cave.
It had been nearly 4 moons since he had last been there, and he allowed his eyes to re-image the beauty of the caves mouth. He sighed and sat down, giving his chest a few quick licks. He licked his forepaw and dragged it up over his ear to remove some dirt that had settled there during his run.
His clanmates did not know he had came to speak to their ancestors, and he didnt want them to. He didnt want anyone to know he was doubting the very foundation of their lives. He was starting to get the feeling that maybe, just maybe, the warrior code was coming to an end...

"Well now..." she chuckled, stepping from the shadows. Labyrinthstars eyes where the deepest blue "Doubts about your clan, huh; you as well?" her tail was straight up, swaying slightly with each step as she approached him, claws still tucked safely behind her claws. SHe looked well-groomed. Her palt had not the slightest speck of dirt on it. The contrast of the black swirls on the white pelt where almost mesmerizing. "Well?" she asked, impatient with his slowness of reply "Oh whats wrong now? are you parched? cant find any water? Jee, like that's not easy to find!" she said sarcastically. She was much smaller that he was. Her ears, however, where twice the size of his. She chuckled, as she studied his features silently

Saffronstar didnt flinch when she came out of the shadows, merely flicked his ear in her direction, yet not even bothering to shift his gaze toward her. It was as if her presence meant little to him, she was not a threat.
His tail lashed angrily at her accusations. "It is not the water I am fearful of. Its the storms. "I'll save fear of water for your washed up clan." He finally fixed his green gaze on hers, his nothing but cold emerald stones. "But something is wrong with this place, the storms are getting worse" He shook his head. He didnt like disguising anything with cats outside his clan. He didnt trust them, and didnt feel any loyalty to them. They were the enemy, the threat, the competition for survival.

She blinked at his first comment, thinking over his wording, before whispering "Now Now, Saffron- We mustn't disrespect the ones who who are slowly destroying us." she chuckled at her slightly sick joke, as she watched him intently "Wouldnt life be easier with a truce? Both of our clans are dying; dont try to hide it! You will fizzle out just as quickly as me. Our lines will end. Then what? We leave some other worthy clan to take over our territory?"

Saffronstar snorted. "A truce? So i can worry about the wellbeing of two clans instead of one. no thank you." His eyes were cold. He had enough on his plate without thinking about the wellbeing of another clan. That was not his responsibility or his home. WHat loyalty did he have to strangers. No the answer was not to join together, he was sure of that. Only the strong will survive, and he would make sure his clan was strong. He would do whatever it took for Squallclan to survive. I'd rather drive a clan away then join forces with one He thought darkly.

"What if we told you we had a great place for fishing. How much would it take to make you say yes?" she whispered. She tried to hide her un-naturally-thin figure in the shadows. She didn't want to make herself look like a target that was unwilling ti strike back should he attack. Besides, her legs where so wobbly now. She could barely walk... And as for the hunting spot- those fish had left there weeks ago. They had moved upstream out of their territory.

Saffronstar snorted. "I'd call you a liar." He mewed peering closer at her to get a better look. "You have more bones showing then I do, If i didnt know any better I'd think Tempestclan was even worse off than Us." His expression became more serious, as if adressing an equil, which was uncommon for him. "Even if it wasnt against my nature to help the other clans we dont have the prey to offer you." He hated to admit that, but it was true. Every day his warriors were bringing back less and less. No doubt the kits in the nursery would die out from starvation.

"You are just as desperate as us!" she hissed. Surely not eating was making her angry. "You dont realize how easy it would be to truce- take over a clan, and split the land? We both know Hurricaneclan and Typhoonclan will never join together after what happened between their leaders... The prey stealing and all.." she tried to calm herself "More territory is more prey. An invasion of another clan is the only way... Kill everyone found- less mouths to feed... Fool-proof!" she finished, staring him in the eyes, unblinkingly

"Thats mousebrained!" but even as he growled it, he couldnt deny how tempting it was to simply attack another clan and drive them out. He shifted his gaze to stare of into the distance, his mind deep in thought. "The other clans are suffering too, what makes you think their is any prey worth having on either of their territories?" He imagined driving out typhoonclan and a sick pleasure squirmed in his belly. AN excuse to attack the enemy. How tempting indeed.

she purred, as she approached him, desciding to rather tempt him into being allies than simply say words... Her tail flicked back and forth as she approached "Have you seen any cats from another clan to know their sufferings? WHen was the last time we had a gathering? three moons ago... They could be thriving! they could be plotting against us right now as we speak... Im sure that..." she reached him, and sat down, staring up into his eyes, her own blue ones shimmering "...if we had someone like you agree to be our ally.. then your handsomeness would simply drive them away." she showed her teeth in the most friendly way she could

Saffronstar rolled his eyes. Labyrinthstar was known for this sort of act. She was used to getting what she wanted. He knew that. He unfortunately was not a cat to be charmed or won over. "Well we're going to have to see them before we talk more about attacking, i dont want to risk lives for nothing." He would like to hope the other clans were doing well, but he had a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach that this fantasy was only that. "And temptress arnt their enough toms for you to bat your eyes at in your own clan?" He lashed his tail with slight irritation. No shecat in his own clan had even made his heart skip, what made her think she was going to have any sucess flirting her way into what she wanted.

"Risk lives?" she purred, not giving up, even after his last statement. She wanted to see just how far she could take this. SHe knew he didnt like her- but maybe this would work to her advantage... "So there are a few less mouths to feed.. Tell me the error?" she was trying to sound cruel, and cold but still keep her act of cuteness up.... However it was becoming less and less of an act every minute....

"The error is I dont care if any of Your cats die but My cats are not death fighting for a lost cause." His eyes flashed. He himself was ruthless and bloodthirsty, but not with his own clan. They were a unit, his comrades, his backup. They needed to be strong and in large numbers and the one thing he would never do was steer them wrong. "If you gain eyes into either clan's status send a message to me, but otherwise we are finished here." His green eyes narrowed. He still wanted to speak with starclan... he needed to see if they had really betrayed the clans like so many were starting to think. Still he was too proud to just leave without giving Labyrinthstar time to respond so he waited at the mouth of the cave.

"Send you word?" she snorted "Oh yes because anyone from my clan will not be murdered the minute we lay a pawstep onto your territory? Even if we make it to your camp, how do i know we can work something out... That you wont take advantage of my clan? I need a promise of partnership and no betrayal if we work something out." her eyes never left him, as she added "..please..."

Saffronstar stiffed and narrowed his eyes even further. "I'm not promising anything until you bring me something worth risking my own neck for." His fur stood on end. Tail lashing irritably back and forth behind him. I cannot promise to not take advantage of your clan any more than you can promise not taking it of mine he thought bitterly. There was no hiding from the truth that the two of them did not care about the existence of the other except in the retrospect of benefit. He repeated his words again, though finishing differently. "If you gain eyes to the other clans, send word. If you are so worried about my warriors killing yours then have your word stay posted on the border and request to be brought back with a patrol." He blinked and swiveled his ears to listen to a gush of wind escaping the cave behind him. "Otherwise keep out of Squallclan's way. I have little time for games and risks now. These are dark times." He disappeared into the shadows of the cave. IF she needed to speak more, she'd have to follow. The sun had started to set outside and soon the moon would light the cracks along Storm Rock. His fur quivered in anticipation to discover the truth...
